Christmas crackers ... Christmas crackers are a fun item designed to put people in a party mood. They usually form part of the Christmas decorations at a traditional Christmas dinner, a cracker being laid on the table at each place setting. A cracker consists of a hollow tube wrapped in decorative paper which is twisted at both ends. The cracker is pulled by two people sitting next to each other, each holding one end and as the cracker is pulled apart it makes a loud cracking sound. Tradition has it that whoever retains the largest portion of the cracker is the winner and is awarded the contents, gets to wear the cracker party hat, and reads out the joke or riddle. All of the crackers are pulled until everyone has a party hat and a small gift.
